That sums up the Body Poets team’s experience of the wonderful Mississippi Mills River Walk and Run on September 10, 2016.
Morning weather was overcast and cool, making perfect conditions for the walkers and runners. The day started on the grounds of the Almonte General Hospital, where zumba dancing warmed up the participants. Then, starting at 8:30, the events began.
Irene (below, right) completed the 5-km walk event in a record time for her, while Andrew and Ellen (left) ran the 10-km event, with Andrew finishing first in his age category.
Thanks to our donors, including a generous gift by “anonymous”, we met our team fundraising goal for the Almonte General Hospital’s birthing unit.
Organizers Aegle Events and all the volunteers did a great job, and the many, many residents of Almonte who lined the streets – including in front of the new retirement home, Orchard View by the Mississippi, kept our spirits high throughout.
By 10 a.m. the sun was burning off the mist, and things were heating up on the hospital grounds as the presentations got underway. Sponsors were set up with booths providing post-event snacks, food, and massage.
We hope you’ll join us next year!
